Tipping in Iran
Customary: 10%. Not customary. Round up, and expect taarof — a refusal that is not a refusal.
At restaurants
What is customary: Not expected — welcome, but nobody is counting
Worked example
On a IRR50,000,000 bill, 10% is IRR5,000,000, so you would hand over IRR55,000,000.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about IRR10,000,000 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected on guided tours. Bring cash: foreign cards do not work here.
The money
