Tipping in Italy
Customary: 5%–10%. A coperto is usually charged already. Round up on top.
At restaurants
What is customary: Service is usually already on the bill
Worked example
On a €50.00 bill, 5% is €2.50, so you would hand over €52.50.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about €10.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Coperto on a bill is not a tip and has nothing to do with guides — tip them separately.
The money
Italy uses the Euro (EUR). Today 1 GBP is 1.1665 EUR.
Tipping in other countries
Customs vary by region, by venue and over time. Use your judgement and your eyes.
