Tipping in Bolivia
Customary: 10%. Not expected. Round up, or 10% at restaurants used to visitors.
At restaurants
What is customary: Not expected — welcome, but nobody is counting
Worked example
On a BOB500.00 bill, 10% is BOB50.00, so you would hand over BOB550.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about BOB50.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected. On a salt-flats trip the driver and the cook are tipped alongside the guide, pooled at the end.
The money
Bolivia uses the Bolivian Boliviano (BOB). Today 1 USD is 11.8795 BOB.
