Tipping in France
Customary: 5%–10%. Service is included by law. Round up, or leave a few euro.
At restaurants
What is customary: Service is usually already on the bill
Worked example
On a €20.00 bill, 5% is €1.00, so you would hand over €21.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about €10.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Restaurants include service; guides do not. Free walking tours run entirely on the tip.
