Customary: 15%–20%. 15–20%, as in the United States. Card terminals prompt before tax in some provinces.
At restaurants
What is customary: A share of the bill, at any size
Worked example
On a C$50.00 bill, 15% is C$7.50, so you would hand over C$57.50.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about C$20.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 15%–20% of the price on top.
As the United States: guiding is a tipped job and the tip is expected, not earned.
The money
Canada uses the Canadian Dollar (CAD). Today 1 GBP is 1.8786 CAD.
