Tipping in Jordan
Customary: 10%. 10% service is usually on the bill; the staff rarely see it, so add a little.
At restaurants
What is customary: A share of the bill, at any size
Worked example
On a JOD20.000 bill, 10% is JOD2.000, so you would hand over JOD22.000.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about JOD5.000 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected. At Petra the horse and cart men are separate from the guide, and both expect something.
The money
Jordan uses the Jordanian Dinar (JOD). Today 1 USD is 0.709000 JOD.
