What is customary: Service is usually already on the bill
Worked example
On a ₡20,000.00 bill, 5% is ₡1,000.00, so you would hand over ₡21,000.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about ₡5,000.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected. Nature guides are the ones who find the sloth — tip them well.

Costa Rica uses the Costa Rican Colón (CRC). Today 1 GBP is 612.20 CRC.
