Tipping in Egypt
Customary: 10%–15%. Baksheesh is expected widely. Keep small notes on you.
At restaurants
What is customary: Service is usually already on the bill
Worked example
On a E£2,000.00 bill, 10% is E£200.00, so you would hand over E£2,200.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about E£250.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected everywhere, and asked for often. Keep small notes: baksheesh is constant and a large note invites a scene.
The money
Egypt uses the Egyptian Pound (EGP). Today 1 GBP is 68.8717 EGP.
