Tipping in Hong Kong

Customary: 5%–10%. A 10% service charge is usually on the bill. Round up on top.

At restaurants

What is customary: Service is usually already on the bill

Worked example

On a HK$500.00 bill, 5% is HK$25.00, so you would hand over HK$525.00.

Tour guides

On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about HK$100.00 per person.

On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.

Normal for guides even though restaurants add service. Cash, at the end.
