Tipping in Argentina

Customary: 10%–15%. 10% is standard, and cash is strongly preferred even when the meal is on a card.

At restaurants

What is customary: A share of the bill, at any size

Worked example

On a AR$50,000.00 bill, 10% is AR$5,000.00, so you would hand over AR$55,000.00.

Tour guides

On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about AR$10,000.00 per person.

On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.

Free walking tours are a Buenos Aires fixture and run on tips. Cash, and small notes are hard to come by — bring them.

The money

Argentina uses the Argentine Peso (ARS). Today 1 USD is 1,512.73 ARS.
