Tipping in Brazil
Customary: 10%. 10% is normally printed on the bill already.
At restaurants
What is customary: A share of the bill, at any size
Worked example
On a R$200.00 bill, 10% is R$20.00, so you would hand over R$220.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about R$50.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected on guided tours. The 10% on a restaurant bill has nothing to do with a guide.
The money
Brazil uses the Brazilian Real (BRL). Today 1 USD is 5.1760 BRL.
Tipping in other countries
Customs vary by region, by venue and over time. Use your judgement and your eyes.
