Tipping in Zambia
Customary: 10%. 10% is normal where service is not included.
At restaurants
What is customary: A share of the bill, at any size
Worked example
On a ZMW500.00 bill, 10% is ZMW50.00, so you would hand over ZMW550.00.
Tour guides
On a “free” walking tour, the tip is the fare: about ZMW100.00 per person.
On a paid tour, 10% of the price on top.
Expected. On safari the guide and the spotter are tipped separately, by the day, and camp staff have a box.
The money
Zambia uses the Zambian Kwacha (ZMW). Today 1 USD is 19.0296 ZMW.
